Does Google Pixel Have MagSafe? Yes, If Your Case Allows It

Short answer: yes, since the Pixel 10. Google builds the magnets into the phone and calls the system Pixelsnap.

Which makes the case the thing that decides. Put the wrong one on and the feature you paid for stops working, and Google says so in its own documentation.

In Short

Pixel phones from the Pixel 10 onward carry Qi2 magnets under the Pixelsnap name, so MagSafe accessories attach with no case at all. A case without its own magnet ring sits in the gap and weakens the connection. Google recommends either no case or a Qi2-compatible one. Caselier's Tough Case with MagSafe has the ring built in, and we make it for the Pixel 10 and 11 lines. Protection is identical to the standard Tough Case, so magnets are the only difference.

Which Pixel phones have magnets built in

The dividing line is the Pixel 10, launched in August 2025. That generation was the first major Android line to put Qi2 magnets inside the phone rather than leaving them to a case, and Google branded the result Pixelsnap.

Google's own documentation confirms it for the Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL and 10 Pro Fold (Google, Learn about Pixelsnap accessories). On those phones a magnetic charger or wallet grips the bare back of the handset with nothing in between.

Pixel 9 and earlier don't have them. Those phones charge wirelessly on a flat pad, but nothing magnetic will attach, because there's nothing inside for it to hold onto.

Google hasn't published Pixel 11 specifications yet, so treat Pixelsnap on that generation as expected rather than confirmed. It arrived one generation ago with a full accessory range behind it, which isn't the kind of feature a manufacturer usually pulls. There's more on that in our guide to Pixel 11 cases.

Why a plain case cancels Pixelsnap

This is the part that catches people out, because it runs backwards from what you'd assume.

Built-in magnets sound like they make a magnetic case pointless. The hardware is already in your phone, so why pay for it twice? But once a case goes on, it sits between your phone's magnets and whatever you're attaching, and that gap decides whether the connection holds.

Google states the consequence plainly. Non-magnetic cases "result in weak or no attachment and unreliable charging", and Google recommends using either no case at all or a Qi2-compatible one (Google).

So on a Pixel, a magnetic case isn't adding a feature. It's protecting one you already own.

What stops working without a magnetic case

Nothing, if you charge with a cable and own no magnetic accessories. The standard Tough Case protects your phone exactly as well and costs less.

If you do use them, these are the ones a non-magnetic case degrades:

  • The Pixelsnap charger and stand. Google's own accessories, designed to grip the back of the phone.
  • Magnetic car mounts. The grip weakens with a thick case in the way, which is the worst place for it to fail.
  • Magnetic wallets and card holders. These carry their own weight, so a weak connection drops them.
  • Snap-on battery packs. Heavy enough that partial attachment isn't good enough.

Charging itself still works through any of our cases. What suffers is the alignment and the grip, and on a vertical stand that difference is the whole feature.

Which Pixel models get a MagSafe case

Taken from our own catalogue rather than a spec sheet, and it lines up neatly with Google's hardware:

Two honest limits worth stating. Pixel 9 and older take the standard Tough Case only, which is a fair match for phones with no magnets to preserve. And we don't make a Snap Case or a Wallet Case for any Pixel yet, so if you wanted a slim snap-on or a flap wallet, this range doesn't have one.

Most designs can be recoloured on their product page, and that includes the MagSafe versions. The exception is The Gallery, our range of classical paintings, which print exactly as the artists made them. The ring is internal, so it never changes how a design prints.

The Pixel 10a is the exception

One phone in the Pixel 10 line doesn't follow the rule. The Pixel 10a ships without built-in magnets, the only member of that generation to skip Pixelsnap (Android Central, 2026).

That flips the advice for 10a owners specifically. There's no built-in feature to preserve, so a magnetic case isn't protecting anything. It's the only way to get magnetic attachment at all, which is the position every Samsung Galaxy owner is in. We do make the Tough Case with MagSafe for the 10a, and on that model the ring in the case is doing all the work.

Choosing between the two cases

Protection is identical, so this comes down to one question:

  • You use magnetic accessories. A Pixelsnap charger, a car mount, a magnetic wallet or a battery pack. Take the Tough Case with MagSafe, because a plain case weakens all of them.
  • You don't. The standard Tough Case gives you the same protection without paying for magnets you'd never use.
